Home comfort, explained
Why does my AC drain line keep clogging?
A recurring backup deserves a check of the whole drainage path. Buildup can obstruct the line, but another round of cleaning does not, by itself, explain why the problem returned.
What the drain is doing
Cooling removes moisture from indoor air. That water collects at the indoor coil and drains away through a pan and condensate line. Dirt, debris and biological buildup can obstruct the route. Water near the equipment, a musty smell or a cooling interruption can be clues, but none identifies the cause on its own.

Give the next service visit a better starting point
A short record is more useful than trying to name the fault yourself. If the symptom returns, keep the previous service date and work description with your notes. Ask the technician to explain what was found, which part of the route was checked, and how drainage was verified afterward.
- When did the interruption or water first appear?
- Where was the water visible, without opening equipment?
- Was the system cooling, idle or already switched off?
- What was cleaned or changed at the previous visit?
- How soon did the same symptom return?
A maintenance dose is not a blockage test
Before choosing an automatic treatment device, establish the condition of the existing drain. A dispensing schedule says when a device operates; it does not show that a blocked line has opened. Ask which liquid is compatible with the equipment and tubing, how dosing is established, and which maintenance tasks still belong to the homeowner or technician.
Treat refill access as part of the product decision. A reservoir that can be removed and cleaned, accessible wear parts and clear service instructions matter long after installation.
What Cordwick is being designed to add
Cordwick Renew is in development with a reusable reservoir, local service controls and separate attention to leaks and high water. Refill operation will not depend on a proprietary cartridge code. Treatment compatibility, dosing performance and installation suitability still require validation.
An active backup needs service now. Joining a product update list does not arrange an emergency repair.
A little more clarity.
Will an automatic drain cleaner clear an existing clog?
Do not treat automatic dispensing as proof that an existing obstruction has cleared. Have the drain assessed and follow the equipment and treatment manufacturer's instructions.
Can a drain problem stop the AC from cooling?
Some installations include a condensate safety switch that interrupts operation when water rises. Cooling can stop for other reasons too, so the symptom needs diagnosis.
Will Cordwick use a locked refill cartridge?
No. The new Renew design uses a reusable, refillable reservoir. Fluid compatibility and calibration will be documented; refill access will not depend on a branded cartridge entitlement.
